Thanks, Douglas! Although the lyrics of "Thick as a Brick" are virtually nonsensical , Ian Anderson’s line that you quote is simple genius: "My word's but a whisper, your deafness a shout." Growing up in 50's and 60's America, it was drilled into my head that we lived in a just universe. One of the things I am so grateful to Douglas and Rajanaka for is the clear notion that we live in an indifferent universe. Although I have such admiration for MLK, he was mismeasuring when he said that "the universe bends toward justice." The only thing that bends toward justice is people willing to do the work and take the hit to insure that some form of justice might prevail. At this moment in time, we clearly do not live in a country of justice where the law is equally applied. My favorite suggestion for the current moment simply: do the next right thing. As Douglas likes to say, this is a little by little, again and again project. I'm in!
"...a share in ourselves and each other that keeps the altar of fires lit for the sake of the sacred that is the blessing and inevitable terror of a life well-lived." thank you always always
Thank you so much for your empathy, Douglas. I have similar thoughts of both wanting to retreat yet knowing I would not be ok leaving things as they are for the kids following... plus I have that heavy warrior archetype tattooed in my soul and so... after taking care of self and family needs, am looking online for a flight for protesting in DC this weekend. I see no choice other than to work both states of being as best I can. Plus as you know, Jersey girls never sit one out. lol xo
I was recently reminded that in the times of Kaliyuga the balance is about 3/4 darkness and 1/4 light. First off what that means to me is that even in the darkest time there is still some light. In the Hindi traditions evidently there is no season for pure darkness, phew! Also that helps me accept what is, darkness is prevailing, whether I like it or not. Last, but not least I do have choices, I can choose to be a steward of the light, holding the light, being a light, and seeing the light. Shine on, all you bright lights out there in the darkness! And yes, do get off the mat (or the liberation flying carpet) to fight the good fight…
